Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This policy explains how TheGame.vc ("the Service") handles information. There are no accounts, no logins, and no personal credentials collected. By using the Service, you agree to the practices below.

2. Local Storage of Game Progress

The game saves your progress (fund name, portfolio state, etc.) in your browser's local storage so you can resume later. We never access this data directly — it lives on your device and is only sent to us when you complete a game (see §3).

3. Leaderboard Submissions

When you complete a game, your score is automatically submitted to our server, including your fund name, portfolio data, performance metrics, reputation, and a validation event log. Your fund name and score may be displayed publicly on the leaderboard. For anti-abuse and rate-limiting purposes, we store a one-way hash of your IP address; we do not retain the raw IP. By playing the game, you agree to this processing. Anti-abuse measures are based on our legitimate interest in protecting the Service.

4. Cookies, Analytics & Third Parties

We do not use cookies or ad trackers, and we do not use any third-party analytics services. We do collect anonymous, aggregate gameplay analytics: a random per-session identifier (generated fresh each game and not stored on your device) together with the in-game decisions you make (e.g. invest/pass actions, startup attributes, year, fund balance, portfolio size). This data is sent to our server at the end of a run and is used to balance and improve the game. It is not linked to your identity, account, or IP address.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate site traffic (page views, referrers, approximate location at country level). Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies and does not fingerprint or track individual visitors across sites, which is why no cookie banner is required. We load assets from jsDelivr and Google Fonts, which may receive standard request data (IP, browser info) when your browser fetches their files. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may also process standard server logs to deliver and secure the Service.

5. How We Use Information

We use data only to run the Service: saving your progress, publishing leaderboard scores, and preventing abuse. We do not sell, rent, or share your information for marketing.

6. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted data, contact us and we will remove it.

7. Data Retention & Your Rights

Local data stays until you clear your browser storage. Leaderboard and anti-abuse records are kept as long as needed to operate the Service. To request removal of a leaderboard entry, email contact@thegame.vc.

8. Changes

We may update this policy at any time. The latest version will be on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
